A Short Article About Bing
Bing is the official and latest entry of Microsoft Corporation into the search engine wars. This opens yet another chapter in its pursuit to displace Google at the top.
Bing’s introduction was supported by an $80 million advertising campaign on almost all kinds of media in United States. The ads do not refer to rival search engines by name but instead they focused on promoting Bing’s quality especially on its web search features. The ads were trying to encourage users to switch, and declares that Bing is better in handling search overloads. Bing by the way is advertised as “decision engine” rather than a web search engine.
Bing is the successor to MSN, Windows Live Search and Live Search. It was launched in May 2009 by Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s CEO, on a conference in San Diego. In June of 2009, Microsoft unleashed Bing on the World Wide Web.
Microsoft also had a significant deal with Yahoo! to make Bing the power behind Yahoo! Search. They projected that by the year 2012, all Yahoo! Search clients should have been converted.
