5 good reasons to use energy saving light bulbs    Bookmark and Share

Energy saving light bulbs are not new to us and they are becoming more popular with the public each passing day, mainly because of their energy saving features. These energy saving light bulbs are costlier than incandescent bulbs and this is perhaps the only reason why some people are still hesitant to make the “switch”. If you are one of those who had not switched yet, here are 5 good reasons that will convince you.

1. Reduces Electric Bills

Whether we admit it or not, saving on our electric bills is the number one reason why we buy energy saving light bulbs over the cheaper incandescent light bulbs. Energy saving bulbs utilize less electricity which translates to a reduction in utility bills. Lighting costs contribute to about 20% on our total utility bill and with these energy-savers being four times more efficient compared to the ordinary bulbs, you can look forward to more savings as the amount saved monthly will be substantial when added together in the long run.

2. They are greener option for our planet

As more and more people are becoming aware of the damaging impact on our environment of carbon dioxide brought about by our excessive use of energy, we need to continuously find ways to reduce it's damaging impact. Replacing your old ordinary light bulbs with energy saving light bulbs is one straightforward way of contributing to this cause of saving the environment. Apart from reducing carbon emissions, you will also be creating less waste. Consider the ten ordinary light bulbs thrown in the garbage against a single energy saving light bulb discarded covering the same time period.

3. They have longer life and costs less - eventually

On average, the life span of an energy saving light bulb is about ten times longer than an incandescent light bulb, which means you will eventually save money over the long run even though it costs more initially.

Work out the prices yourself. Get the price of an incandescent bulb and multiply it by 10. The cost of ten incandescent bulbs are more than the price of a single energy saving light bulb.

4. Mood enhancer

The light emitted by incandescent bulbs is yellow or orange which is somewhat unnatural and different compared to the natural colour of sunlight. Several studies had shown that lighting colour can influence people's moods. The majority of energy saving bulbs produce bright white light which is much closer to natural sunlight. So, it might lift your mood!

5. Reduces reliance on foreign oil

Fuel used to generate energy involves the use of oil or coal in one way or another. So the energy that is used to light our homes and even the energy that was used to manufacture the bulbs is derived from hydrocarbons. By using less energy and bulbs, we will be reducing our reliance on foreign energy because we don't produce enough oil, coal and gas oursleves. Do in for Britain!

An energy performance certificate or EPC London will tell you how and where you can save energy and money in your home.
