Installing a new gas boiler - the legal requirements

By law, only people with the appropriate licensing or certifications should install a gas boiler. These people are called Gas Safe Approved installers or engineers. This requirement is for our own safety. This is not a job that should be performed by a novice through trial and error. Installing a gas boiler is something that needs to be done properly by a professional.

Choosing a boiler depends on three things: budget, preference and gas, water and electrical supply sites. Order any accessories required that will not be included with the boiler. Choose and prepare the boiler site, making sure to choose an area with easy access to the exterior vent for proper maintenance. Clean and then store all combustible items away from the area.

When the boiler arrives, remove the boiler and all enclosed accessories from the packaging, making sure to unscrew the boiler from the wood palate under it. Place valves and all accessories in a convenient location and follow enclosed instructions for installation of parts. Install the water piping remembering to have a feed and a return for the hot water system. Make sure to read all instruction carefully, for the flo-checks and feed sites. Zone valves are also good if they are preferred. Make sure to use the correct size piping and enough circulators to handle the size system installed. There will be reoccurring problems if the correct amount circulators aren't used.

Keep in mind, when installing the vents for the boiler, that it must have sufficient ventilation, for safety. Keeping them clean and free of debris and dust, will ensure that the boiler operates efficiently ensures proper air flow. Connecting the gas supply will have a few variations for propane and natural gas, check the installation instructions carefully. When all of the connections have been made, turn on the water, using the automatic feed valve to obtain the correct operating pressure for the type of boiler being installed, usually between 18 and 22 psi. The boiler room must never be under pressured.

Once again, only licensed and certified professionals who are "Gas Safe Approved" should make the appropriate gas connections. A licensed professional needs to do all the required adjustments for carbon dioxide output and make sure the installation meets all safety standards before a service technician can give the good to go for use.
