There are so many things to do in Sydney that picking just ten doesn't seem fair. But sometimes you can do too much when you're on holiday and forget that you're actually here to relax and enjoy yourself!

Have a Singapore Sling in Raffles HotelBy no means is this an original thing to do. But if you haven't done it, then you're going to have to. Mainly because everyone will ask you if you've done it! So go to the Long Bar, order a Singapore Sling (enjoy it, it will cost you around £13 - but a bottle of beer will cost around £10 anyway..), eat your peanuts and throw the shells on the floor like everyone else.

Get to the top of the Marina Bay SandsThe strangest looking building in Singapore and maybe the planet. Three 600ft buildings with the World's largest sky terrace sitting right on top of them. Get to the top by buying a ticket for the Sands SkyPark. Or if you have the cash book a table outside at KU DÉ TA. Yes, it's as expensive as it sounds but there isn't a view like it anywhere on earth.

Take a trip on the MRTSingapore's Mass Rapid Transit system is a beautifully efficient, modern masterclass in getting the population from A to B. It's fast and cheap and very, very clean - just like the rest of Singapore. Give yourself something to imagine when you're next on the tube... |

Visit GeylangHop in a taxi or get the MRT to Geylang. Most people will drone on about the fascinating architecture and the local food. But you should really go just to see a dirty part of Singapore - there aren't many! You'll realize what it was like to live here in the 40s and 50s and what an incredible transformation the city has undergone since! BTW, there is a big red light district here...

Get a taxi to Singapore ZooNot as dull as it sounds. Hop in a taxi to Singapore Zoo. It's quicker than taking the MRT because it doesn't go there! You'll have to take a bus for the rest of the journey. Anyway, taxis are cheap in Singapore so it will cost around £12 from town. Singapore Zoo is great for lots of reasons but the best thing for me is how close you are to the animals. Literally 15 feet from tigers, lions, elephants, giraffes and chimps. The Orangutans are in the trees over your head! The night safari is worth a look, it starts at 7pm.

Sunday brunch at the Fullerton HotelIt isn't cheap and you really should wear something 'sports casual' but this is a Sunday Brunch unlike any you've had before. Starts at 11am and ends at 3pm - see how much champagne, lobster, foie gras and cheese you can get down your neck. All in what may be the most beautiful hotel in Singapore - and that's saying something!

Head to Clarke Quay for drinksOnce upon a time in the 19th Century this place was the hub of commercial activity. It's now the hub for late night entertainment. There are restaurants, bars and clubs everywhere. English bars, Irish bars, Hong Kong bars, Italian restaurants - you name it and they have it. Worth a look one evening while you're here. |
 |
Take a walk down Orchard road to the Botanic GardensIt doesn't get much better for shopping anywhere than the Orchard Road. Shop after shop and mall after mall. Great for half a day or so - for me at any rate. Then carry on a little further and get to the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Parks, rain forests and even lakes right in the middle of the city - well downtown anyway. And the Orchids really are quite exceptional.

Singapore FlyerThere's one in China that's bigger, but this is still a very big wheel. The views are great - but are they the best now the Marina Bay Sands has been built? Well, have a look anyway. You can almost reach it by walking through the underground shopping malls from Raffles City to Suntec. Pop up at Suntec to see the worlds largest fountain!

ChinatownThere's one in every major city but this one has a really nice temple! Sri Mariamman Hindu Temple is at the bottom of Pagoda Street. Start at the top of Pagoda Street and browse - maybe even buy! - hand crafted goods, nick nacks and clothes. It has very good 'Street eats'.
