Search Engine Optimization is a technique used to enhance your website’s rank on search engine results. Websites that appear on the first pages of major search engines have the highest percentage of bringing potential customers to their site. When your website is properly optimized, it is more likely that you will land on the first page of a search engine’s result. And not only that, you do not have to spend money to get listed once your website is optimized. But this technique takes a lot of time before you arrive at the top pages especially if we are talking about major search engines. This is usually a slow process of climbing the ranks and pages and it can be done by continually improving your website.

The PPC on the other hand is a rather speedy way of making your website seen on directories and search engines. It is a technique in which businesses can purchase high ranks or positions in search engines. In fact, an increasing number of companies are setting budgets to this kind of marketing campaign. All they have to do is to bid for top keywords related to their business and their website will appear on the top pages, getting the exposure they aimed for. But there is a drawback to this option, it’s quite expensive.

Search Engine Marketing is not all about creating traffic, you also have to monitor and analyze the traffic created. Being on the first page of a search engine doesn’t always guarantee success, you have to get potential customers to go to your website and do whatever it is you want them to do. For instance, if you are selling something, are they buying? You have to gather and study these data to know if your SEM is producing the results you want.

SEM is a method that requires skill and money in the case of PPC. When done correctly, it could prove to be very rewarding.
